The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning approved contracts for two bridge projects.
Cunningham-Reis Company, Van Meter, had the apparent low bid for the two bridges - the first, located on Ziegler Ave. north of Highway D-65 in Scott Township, and the second on Tollman Avenue in Section 24 of Liberty Township. The bid for the first project was $193,940.50 and the second was $184,647.
The supervisors also approved a contract with Peterson Construction, Webster City, for the remodeling of the main floor courthouse restrooms. The contractor's bid was $46,100. The only other bidder was Habhab Construction, Webster City, with a bid of $49,586.
Supervisor Chairman David Young said both bids came in substantially lower the architect's estimate of $60,000. The project will involve a complete remodel of the men's and women's restrooms and will include making the facilities more handicap accessible, Young said.
The project is expected to begin in mid-November and be completed by late December or early January.
County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Kim Schaa reported that nearly 1,400 Hamilton County residents had requested absentee ballots or had voted early. She said there are about 10,000 eligible voters in the county.
