The Daily Freeman Journal

FOREST CITY - Finishing proved to be a problem for the 13th-ranked (Class 4A) Webster City volleyball team here on Saturday.

The Lynx went 2-3 at the Forest City Invitational, with two of the losses coming in third set tiebreakers.

WCHS claimed 2-0 wins over St. Ansgar (21-10, 21-7) and North Iowa (21-17, 21-12), lost 2-0 to Clarion-Goldfield (21-19, 22-20) and 2-1 to North Union (21-18, 9-21, 16-14) and Spirit Lake (15-21, 21-18, 15-13).

"We had a lot of close (matches) this weekend, we were just unable to finish and put it all together at the end of (sets)," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. "We had to use a different lineup again and that always puts a kink in everything. It does get a little bit overwhelming, but we're not going to use that as an excuse."

The Lynx (14-8) were without sophomore hitter Maddie Anderson, and that forced the rotation changes.

One constant was the play of junior outside hitter Kaylee Schnathorst, who blasted away for 49 kills on the day. She ripped 18 and put up a .533 kill efficiency in the three-set loss to North Union.
