JEWELL - The scores might now show it, but the South Hamilton volleyball team grew up a little bit here last night.

Third-ranked (Class 3A) Nevada owned the net and dictated the tempo throughout en route to a 3-0 sweep of the Hawks, 25-14, 25-9, 25-17, but Hawks' head coach Cindy Holmes exited the court looking at the positives.

Her team never let down and never gave up.

"We've been working really hard on our mentality because we've been losing some matches we shouldn't lose, and we had some growth there (last night)," Holmes said. "I hope it's a boost we can take with us the rest of the season."

Nevada (14-3, 5-0 HOIC) swung for the fences, and its powerful blasts limited the Hawks to a single-digit digs total.

"Nevada is a really nice team," Holmes said. "They have a real legit, quick offense and they had pretty good ball control to go with that. But we made a confident run at them (in the third set) and we never went away mentally."
