JEWELL - When the Jewell City Council met in regular session, Hamilton County Conservation Director Brian Lammers was there to discuss the status of the JewEllsworth Trail planned to run between Jewell and Ellsworth.

Lammers reported that a REAP grant has been prepared for submission. A new 120-foot bridge will be put in during 2013 with money that was received during the 2009 grant.

Lammers requested $75,000 for this new grant. Funding from the REAP grant would allow the city of Jewell to construct 920 feet of the JewEllsworth Trail on the east side of Jewell leading to the bridge being constructed in 2013 and will cross the drainage ditch connecting it to the remaining trail to Ellsworth.

The council approved submission of the REAP grant.

In other business, a resident requested closure of Division Street between Anderson and Edwards Streets for a block party the evening of Sept. 9. The request was approved.
