BLAIRSBURG - Floors at Northeast Hamilton CSD are polished and teachers are in the classrooms preparing as the 2012-2013 school year begins on Aug. 21.

The upcoming year will be groundbreaking for the NEH High School students as they will travel to Webster City to participate in partial day sharing. Each day, the students will board a school bus by 7:50 a.m. and travel the seven miles east on Highway D25 in order to attend three to four class periods at Webster City High School.

In preparation for the upcoming year, NEH students, parents and guardians are invited to attend an open house/orientation on Aug. 15 at Webster City HS in the Prem Sahai Auditorium at 6 p.m.

Following the orientation, Webster City HS staff will be available to meet with parents and students and to answer questions. Tours will also be given.

Students interested in participating in Webster City sports can attend an informational meeting from 6:45-7 p.m.

Back in Blairsburg, on Thursday, Aug. 16, the NEH Kindergarten and Pre-K Round-up will be held in the new elementary building at 6 p.m. for students, parents and guardians.

The annual NEH Open House will be held on Aug. 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event is for all students in grades K-12 and their parents.

Students are encouraged to drop off their school supplies and become acquainted with their new classroom and teacher.

The iPAD roll-out will be held for high school students and their parents or guardians during the open house.

This summer the NEH school board voted to equip all high school students with the cutting edge technology of an iPAD rather than update outdated laptops.

For the iPAD roll-out, junior and senior class students will meet in the cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ninth and tenth grade students will then meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

To receive an iPAD, students need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The meeting will review rules and school district expectations in addition to completing permission forms.

In order to receive an iPAD, students must complete school registration forms.

School start times have changed due to the partial-day sharing with classes beginning at 8:05 a.m. The school day will end at 3:20 p.m.

There is always an exception to the rule and due to Teacher Professional Development workshops, students will be dismissed early on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

Parents are asked to note that due to partial-day sharing, there will be no more late start days for teacher workshops. Instead, students will be dismissed earlier in the day.

This marks the third year that NEH administration is taking advantage of technology to keep district patrons up to date on school happenings via the internet, noted Superintendet Patrick Hocking.

School newsletters, student handbooks, revised bus schedules and updated school calendars are available online at:

Patrons may also register for the NEH Notice email which is updated daily with student announcements, weather cancellations and calendar updates.
