Wendell Lowe, 95, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his residence in Sun City West, Arizona.
Born October 18, 1916 in Weldon, Iowa to Iowa State Senator, Wesley Chaney Lowe, and Florence Mattie Eddy Lowe. He had two sisters, Lois Ellen Lowe Fairall and Ora Ileen Lowe Briely.
He attended Weldon High School and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa.
Upon graduating college, Wendell held various positions in the Iowa State Treasurer's Office. In 1941, he began his banking career with Bank of America in Los Angeles, California. He later moved back to Webster City, Iowa where he was employed by First State Bank for 15 years.
Wendell married Margie Eileen Gleason in 1947. They were married for 49 years until she passed away in 1996.
He was very active in community affairs and volunteered for many leadership positions.
In Webster City, Wendell was one of the founders of the Community Chest and served as President of the Chamber of Commerce. In 1957, he became Cashier of the Boone State Bank and Trust Company and served as Chamber of Commerce President in Boone. He was also a lifelong member of the Elks Club and served as the Exalted Ruler of his lodge.
Following his banking career, Wendell and Margie, owned and operated Virginia's House of Flowers for 16 years before retiring to Sun City West, Arizona. Wendell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel, particularly by car and was an avid golfer until the age of 89 with two hole in ones. Wendell was an affable and warm man, who will be sorely missed.
Wendell is survived by his step-son, James Michael Gleason and wife, Vang Le Gleason of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, grandchildren Mylinh Nightengale, Michele Hanna, and Michael Gleason, 4 great-grandchildren Michael, Katelyn, Stella, and Scarlet, and many nieces and nephews.
A service is planned for October 6, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Sun City West to commemorate his life with a reception to follow at Briarwood Country Club.
