The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the human remains found in Little Wall Lake on Thursday are those of a Jewell man who has been missing since 2008.
County officials said the state medical examiners office reported the remains were those of Virgil L. Wilcox, 66, of Jewell. Wilcox was reported missing from Jewell in June 2008.
Foul play in the incident has been ruled and the medical examiners office has said the death was likely a suicide with the probably cause of death listed as drowning.
Law enforcement officials were called to Little Wall Lake Thursday when a fisherman found a shoe that contained a foot and leg bone. A dive team later discovered a submerged car, apparently belonging to Wilcox.
