Courtney Carter has participated in the Concordia Language Villages program by attending Skovsoen, the Danish Language Village located in Bemidji, Minn. Carter is the daughter of Tammi and Chad Carter, of Webster City. Carter received a scholarship from Woodmen of the World, Danish Sisterhood and Concordia to support her enrollment this summer. By attending Skovsoen, the Danish Language Village, Carter experienced a simulated visit to another country. The villager has been issued a passport, exchanged currency and adopted a new name. By interacting with staff from all over the world, Carter also learned about the many opportunities available to those who speak more than one language. Carter was immersed in the language and culture of another country through large and small learning groups, authentic foods, holiday celebrations, re-enactments of historic events, songs, dances, crafts, games and everyday conversations.
