Leona Stubberud, age 67, of Webster City, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Community Church of Kamrar. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City following the funeral luncheon. Visitation is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.
Leona Opal Brainard was born in Richmond, California on October 1, 1944 to James Arthur and Hazel Alice (Miller) Brainard. The family moved to Webster City. In 1965 Leona graduated from the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. On July 20, 1968 Leona married Merwin Stubberud at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. They resided in Waterloo for a time then moved back to Webster City in 1975. Leona loved to laugh, visit with other deaf friends, and interacting with animals. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Leona is survived by her sons, David (Danielle) Stubberud and Richard (Nicolette) Stubberud; granddaughters, Sierra and Palyn all of Webster City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merwin in 1997; a brother, Elmer Curtis; and grandchildren, Noah and Hannah.
