CLEAR LAKE - The first four batters in the Webster City lineup combined to hammer nine hits, four of which went for extra bases, and drive in eight runs here last night to help the Lynx secure their 20th victory of the season.
Lead-off stick Kaylee Schnathorst led the charge with a 3-for-4 night that featured three doubles and three RBIs, as the Lynx stormed by North Central Conference rival Clear Lake, 12-0 in 5 innings, in their regular season finale.
"Their pitcher (Sara Barlow) was throwing strikes, so it was good to see the girls focusing right off the bat," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said.
The Lynx (20-13, 14-4 NCC) finished all alone in third in the league standings behind champion Iowa Falls-Alden and runner-up Fort Dodge St. Edmond.
"It is what it is," Howard said of the conference race. "You never want to settle for anything, but from where we started the year at to where we're at now, the girls have made tremendous strides."
Schnathorst drove in all three of her runs on a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning, part of a five-run frame that put WCHS in charge 8-0.
