JEWELL - Nevada senior pitcher Zach Cross was in command of his pitches and the South Hamilton offense Friday night at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.
Cross was the mastermind behind an 8-0 shutout victory for the Cubs (13-8, 8-4 HOIC), as he kept the Hawks guessing during his five innings of work. Alex Good came on in the sixth to slam the door.
"Cross threw amazing," South Hamilton head coach Bret Bell said. "Whatever he wanted to throw he could for strikes."
Cross - who threw a two-hitter in a 13-1 win over South Hamilton (8-14, 4-11 HOIC) earlier this season - and Good allowed just four hits. Lane Heinlein had two singles, while Chris Jacobson and John Hegland both had one.
Cole Swenson suffered the loss on the bump for the struggling Hawks, who have lost eight straight games. Swenson went the distance, giving up nine hits and six earned runs; he struck out four and walked five.
