Boughton new administrator at Southfield

Southfield Wellness Community, owned by ABCM Corporation, has welcomed John Boughton as their new administrator. Boughton, originally from Webster City, comes to Southfield with more than 30 years experience in healthcare management. Effective June 11, Boughton was responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations at the long term care center.

Boughton became a licensed nursing home administrator in Minnesota in 1983 and in Iowa in 2011. During his career he has had oversight responsibilities of nursing homes, independent senior housing, assisted living, home care, Hospice, adult day programs, county wide transportation programs, foundation and fundraising, and Meals on Wheels.

His prior positions include nursing home administrator, campus administrator, chief operating officer and CEO. John's professional career has been mostly in southeast Minnesota including Red Wing, Pine Island and Kenyon with stints in the Twin Cities and Litchfield, Minn. Most recently, he was administrator at Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center.

Boughton has a bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota and a masters degree from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn.

His roots are in Webster City, where he moved with his parents, Red and Dorothy, in 1962. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1974. He moved to Minnesota in 1977 and returned to the area last year. His father, Red, is deceased and step-mother, Phyllis Boughton lives in Webster City. His wife, Martha and son Sam, age 17, live in Kenyon, Minn. His older children, Ben, 28, and Rachel, 26, live and work in the Twin Cities. Boughton is looking forward to Martha joining him in Webster City after Sam's graduation.

When asked why he was attracted to Southfield, John said, "I have a passion for the person directed care philosophy in long term care. I am impressed how ABCM Corporation and Southfield embrace the concept of culture change and developing care centers more like home where residents are given unlimited choices." He also said he is glad to be back in Webster City reacquainting with the community, family and friends.
