JEWELL - It was a special session for the South Hamilton school board on Wednesday evening, starting with a hearing for early start date for the 2012-13 school calendar. There were no objections.
Under personnel on the agenda, the board approved several resignations and hirings. Curtis Stoecker will be the new buildings and grounds coordinator at the school. Also approved for hiring was Dan Brodie, at-risk coordinator and assistant varsity football coach; Darrell Paulsen, head varsity cross country coach; and Cindy Holmes, head varsity volleyball coach.
The resignation of Darrell Paulsen as assistant varsity football coach was also approved, but action on the resignation of high school science teacher Patrick Donovan was tabled until the July board meeting.
A 28E contract with Iowa Central Community College for early bird classes, especially Western civilization, was also approved.
In other business Wednesday evening, Doug Follmann of Town and Country Insurance presented information to the board on compromise insurance, which has to do with loss of student information and identity theft protection, The board took no action, deciding to do more research and to consult with technology coordinator Lannie Schafroth before taking up the matter at their July board meeting.
Also, the board heard an update on the kitchen/commons remodel project and approved change orders for the length of baseboard heaters and a larger electrical panel. Another change order approved dealt with adjustments to errors in the original estimate of items for the kitchen and bringing the restroom in the kitchen up to code. The board toured the construction site.
