ALGONA - Kaitlyn Biere cranked her third home run of the season and the Webster City softball team rolled to its 10th consecutive North Central Conference victory here last night.
Biere, a junior, unleashed a two-run bomb in the first inning to left-center field, part of a 13-hit clinic in a 13-1, 5-inning rout of Algona. Biere finished a triple short of the cycle to propel the Lynx to 14-11 overall and 10-2 in the NCC.
"We really hit the ball hard every single time we were up to bat," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. "We did a good job of keeping our weight back and driving the ball."
The Lynx scored twice in the opening inning, once in the second and twice in the fourth to build a 5-1 lead. In the fifth is when they really caught fire though; 12 batters stepped to the plate and seven delivered hits, part of an eight-run frame.
Mikaleh McCoy smacked an RBI single and a two-run double in the fifth. Tiffany Constable collected two RBIs with a single, and Kaylee Schnathorst, Hannah Myers and Molly Gilbert all plated one run on base knocks in the marathon inning.
McCoy joined Biere with a 3-for-4 night. Constable had two hits; she was aboard with a double in the first when Biere went yard.
