South Hamilton Softball, Baseball Report

SH softball tripped up by Comets, 4-3

ALLEMAN - North Polk scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held on to knock off South Hamilton, 4-3, in Heart of Iowa Conference softball action here last night.

The Hawks finished with 10 hits to the Comets' four, but South Hamilton (3-11, 0-7 HOIC) committed four errors in the field.

Kayla Lucas ripped a single and double in the loss, and Brittany Nicholson added two singles and two RBIs. Ella Jans also laced a pair of base hits.

Shannon Hoyle, Mattea Detrick, Elisabeth Elsner, Carly Swenson and Tiffany Jacobson all singled as well.

Nicholson suffered the loss in the circle. She struck out one and walked two.

South Hamilton will take part in the Roland Kiwanis Tournament beginning on Friday against Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m.

No. 4 North Polk blanks Hawks, 8-0

JEWELL - The South Hamilton baseball team was limited to just three hits last night, as the Hawks dropped a second contest this season to fourth-ranked (Class 2A) North Polk, 8-0.

The Comets (13-3, 7-0 HOIC) rattled off two runs in the first and second innings, and then scored four more in the fifth.

Devin Howard suffered the loss on the mound for South Hamilton (8-7, 4-5 HOIC). He allowed nine hits and struck out three in five-plus innings.

Chris Jacobson, Lane Heinlein and John Hegland accounted for the Hawks' hits; all were singles.

South Hamilton will be at home on Friday to take on Saydel at 7:30 p.m.
