The Daily Freeman Journal

JEWELL - A four-run first inning, coupled with a six-run fourth propelled the South Hamilton baseball team to a rivalry win over Heart of Iowa Conference counterpart Roland-Story on Monday at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.

The Hawks (8-6, 3-5 HOIC) peppered Norsemen pitchers Zach Hovick and Brody Concannon for 10 hits in a 10-5 victory.

John Hegland went 3-for-4 at the dish with four runs batted in to lead the charge. Trevor Ullestad lashed a pair of singles and collected two RBIs, and Lane Heinlein added a pair of singles and drove in one run.

Cole Swenson, Lucas Olson and Justin Shepherd all had one hit.

Heinlein was in command on the hill, as he went the distance to pick up the win. He limited Roland-Story (10-9, 2-4 HOIC) to just five hits - all singles - and he struck out nine against five walks. He also got plenty of help from Olson, who picked off three runners from behind the plate.

South Hamilton will return to its home diamond tonight to take on fourth-ranked (Class 2A) North Polk at 7:30 p.m.
