Library events for kids this summer

The Kendall Young Library Children's Department will hold its summer library program from June 18 to July 30.

Children can read books to earn prizes. There will be weekly activities, including special storytimes, performances, crafts, games and movies.

Preschool storytime will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

Night Owl Club will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays for children who have finished kindergarten through fourth grade.

Explore & Create Club for Kids will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays for children who have finished kindergarten through fourth grade.

Special events that will be held include:

Silly Sally, a Professional Clown - 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on June 26 for children ages preschool to fourth grade, and their families.

Des Moines Zoo - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 9 for children who have finished kindergarten through fourth grade.

Balloon Sculpting Class - 4 to 5 p.m. on July 12 for those who have finished second grade and up.

Magic Show with Magician Rick Eugene - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 12. This is a program for kids and families.

There will be game days for kids this summer:

Lego Fun - July 2 and July 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is for kids six-years-old through fourth grade. Lego creations will be displayed. Lego donations will be accepted.

Wii games, board games and treats - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 23 for children six years old through fourth grade.

End of the summer movies will be held on Aug. 2, 9 and 16 from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. for children five-years-old and up.

Aug. 1 - "Adventures of Tintin"

Aug. 8 - "Puss in Boots"

Aug. 15 - "Journey 2: Mysterious Island"
