Janesville scores 6 in fifth, runs away from Trojans 10-2

BLAIRSBURG - A six-run fifth inning, with included five Northeast Hamilton errors, allowed Janesville to pull ahead and away from the Trojans in an Iowa Star Conference baseball game here yesterday evening.

The Wildcats (5-5, 5-3 ISC) tacked on four runs in the sixth and seventh frames to win 10-2. The Trojans (3-10, 2-5 ISC) finished with seven defensive lapses.

Gabe Rapp, Andy Pate, Nick Jeffers, Mark Frohwein and Austin Smith all laced singles for NEH. The Trojans scored single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Marcus Mechaelsen suffered the loss on the bump. Andy Sorenson picked up the win for Janesville.

WILLIAMS - Janesville plated two runs in the first inning, two more in the second and five in the third to built an insurmountable lead en route to a 9-5 Iowa Star Conference softball victory over Northeast Hamilton here yesterday evening.

The Wildcats (7-5, 4-2 ISC) racked up 11 hits off Trojets' pitcher Molly Greenfield, who allowed five earned runs. Greenfield struck out five and walked two.

Northeast Hamilton (3-12, 1-5 ISC) got the bats rolling late with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, following by a single run in the seventh.

The Trojets finished with eight hits; Jaidyn Timm and Andi Anderson both had two, while Greenfield, Caity Hassebrock, Leah Meyer and Jenn Williams all contributed one.

Hoyle and Nicholson leave yard, but Hawks commit 11 errors and fall to Norse, 13-9

JEWELL - Solo home runs by Shannon Hoyle and Brittany Nicholson weren't enough for the South Hamilton softball team here last night, as 11 errors led to a slew of runs for Roland-Story and the Norse went on to take the Heart of Iowa Conference softball game, 13-9.

Hoyle cranked her fifth dinger of the season in the fifth inning, and Nicholson blasted her first in the sixth. The Hawks (3-10, 0-6 HOIC) finished with 13 hits to nine for Roland-Story (7-4, 4-3 HOIC).

Nicholson also lashed two doubles and finished with two RBIs. Elisabeth Elsner rocked a RBI double, and Mattea Detrick drove in two runs with two singles.

Tiffany Jacobson added two singles; Ella Jans, Carly Swenson, MacKenzie Busch and Kayla Lucas all had one.
