Program at Boe Cemetery set for June 19

June 12, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

RANDALL - Area residents are invited to learn about Hamilton County's earliest settlers at the latest pioneer cemetery program on June 19 The event will be held at Boe Cemetery, south of Randall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Boe Cemetery is located at 3955 Christytown Road. To reach the cemetery, it is necessary to go through the farm of Curtis Owenson. Drive south out of Randall on First Street which turns into Tollman Avenue once out of town. Follow Tollman as it turns east past Hamilton County Road R61 (goes to Story City). The Owenson farm is the second farm on the north side of the road past R61.

Look for the red barn on the north side of Tollman. Follow the dirt lane into the timber about a half-mile crossing over the creek; the cemetery is on the right side between farm land and the Skunk River. Although there is a bridge over the creek, it is only in dry weather that is possible to drive to the cemetery. It will be necessary to share rides to the cemetery so please park and wait for coordinators to pick you up and take you back to the site.

Local members of the Hamilton County Cemetery Preservation Society will introduce guests to several "residents" of the cemetery and discuss the intents of this newly formed organization. John Laird of Hamilton County Conservation will lead the group in a stone rubbing activity to help decipher stones that are difficult to read.
