The First Congregational, United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship annual May dinner was held on May 23 where approximately 40 people came for a meal and the program.
Lori Hartnett spoke about the school backpack program. In the community, there are many young people who may go with very little or no food to eat during long weekend breaks. The backpack program was started to send food home with them so they have food to eat during those breaks. She explained how the program was started and how it has grown in a very short time as the needs of children are identified. Along with the food used to decorate the tables at the dinner, a monetary donation in the amount of $500 was given to the backpack program from the Women's Fellowship.
Fundraising through the program year also allowed the group to donate to the following:
$1,000 to Our Churches Wider Mission;
$700 to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc.;
$600 to Ecumenical Human Needs
$600 to All Cultures Equal;
$500 to the Webster City Free Clinic; and
$300 to AGAPE fund.
