BLAIRSBURG - Marcus Mechaelsen was nearly untouchable, but he didn't get any help.
The Northeast Hamilton senior hurler gave up just three hits and he fanned 16 batters here yesterday evening, but his downfall was his own defense as Colo-NESCO scored four unearned runs in the sixth inning to knock off the Trojans, 4-1, in Iowa Star Conference action.
All four of the Trojans' errors occurred in the sixth when the Royals (5-2, 5-1 ISC) pulled ahead for good.
"Marcus continues to just battle and it's frustrating to waste that pitching performance," NEH head coach Brandon Kelley said, noting Mechaelsen walked just one.
NEH (2-7, 1-4 ISC) scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI base hit by Andy Pate. Logan Seiser drilled a double earlier in the frame and scored on the Pate single.
Jacob Ratzke also had a hit in the loss. The Trojans left 11 men stranded on base, including the bases jammed in the fourth.
