DUNKERTON - The inability to plate runners when the opportunities - and there were many of them - arose crippled the Northeast Hamilton softball team here yesterday evening.
Despite ripping 11 hits, the Trojets came up on the short end of a one-run game, as Dunkerton moved ahead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and prevailed, 6-5, in Iowa Star Conference action.
Northeast Hamilton (0-7, 0-3 ISC) left the bases loaded on three occasions and stranded a total of 14 base runners.
Jenn Willems laced three base hits and drove in one run in the loss. Jennifer Jeffers added two singles and one RBI, and Andi Anderson had two base knocks as well.
Caity Hassebrock had the team's lone extra-base hit - a double. Lillian Chamness, Kaylee Massman and Molly Greenfield all had singles.
Greenfield took the loss in the pitcher's circle. Dunkerton (7-6, 4-1 ISC) touched her for 11 hits.
