WEBSTER CITY - A five-run second inning, followed by a six-run fifth inning for Clarion-Goldfield was the difference last night at Lynx Field, as the Cowboys took advantage of an erratic Webster City pitching staff to pick up an 11-9 North Central Conference baseball victory.
The Lynx (1-3, 0-2 NCC) issued 10 walks, while the Cowboys (3-3, 1-2 NCC) surrendered just four and only one after relief pitcher Wyatt Sann took over in the second inning.
"The walks were the difference," WCHS head coach Seth McGrane said. "Giving up 10 free bases, it's hard to win like that. The strike zone was tighter than we've seen this year, but we need to adjust to where they're being called."
