NEVADA - No. 5-ranked Nevada ripped off six goals in the second half to beat Webster City going away, 7-0, in a girls' Class 1A Region 4 quarterfinal-round match here last night.
The Cubs (12-4) managed just one goal over the initial 40 minutes on a bouncing ball that got over the head of Lynx goalkeeper Samantha Garcia, but after the break the home team utilized its bench to fly by the out-gunned Lynx.
"We played them really well in the first half, but then they just wore us out in the second half with their bench," WCHS head coach Greg Bock said. "But it was a lot of fun and the team really played hard against the No. 5 team in the state."
WCHS (4-10) managed just one shot on goal, which came in the second half, while Nevada (12-4) got off 27 shots against Garcia. The Lynx junior keeper finished with 18 saves.
