CARROLL - Already with an early-season win over third-ranked (Class 3A) Harlan, the Carroll baseball team added Webster City to its victim list last night, 9-2.
The Tigers (3-0) scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, and they added three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
WCHS (1-1) scored single runs in the first and seventh innings. The Lynx finished with just four hits off Carroll pitchers Chance Cleveland and Anthony Beyerink, and the Tiger hurlers combined for nine strikeouts.
"Carroll has a nice team this year," WCHS head coach Seth McGrane said. "Four hits and nine strikeouts isn't going to get the job done most nights, but at the same time I thought we got better and that's what we're working for each night."
Sam Mossman went 2 for 4 with a run scored at the dish for the Lynx. Dylan Fielder laced a first-inning RBI single, and Ben Mossman had the team's other hit.
Cody Jondal took the loss on the hill after working into the fourth inning.
