GARNER - Trailing most of the match, the Webster City girls' soccer team responded over the final 8 minutes of regulation to force overtime here last night.
After a pair of 10-minute sudden-death periods, the match went to penalty kicks and WCHS prevailed, 3-2, over Garner-Hayfield.
"We're really excited about the win," WCHS head coach Greg Bock said. "It was a real team effort, and I'm just really proud of the girls for the way they kept fighting in a tough match."
Molly Gilbert and Sarah Paukert scored goals during a 3-minute span late in the second half to put the Lynx (3-9) ahead 2-1, but Garner-Hayfield (0-7) responded in the final 30 seconds to force the extra periods.
In penalty kicks, Kolby Stanley, Brenna Paukert and Sarah Paukert found the back of the net to propel the visitors to the win.
Lynx goalkeeper Samantha Garcia came up with 10 saves on the night, including two in penalty kicks.
WCHS out shot Garner-Hayfield 13-10.
The Lynx will close out the regular season at home on Thursday against CMB at 5:30 p.m.
