Gael girls surrender just one match against Lynx on courts

The Daily Freeman Journal

WEBSTER CITY - One doubles victory was all the Webster City girls' tennis team could muster against Fort Dodge St. Edmond yesterday afternoon at the WCHS courts.

Partners for the first time, the Lynx No. 3 team of Abbey Groves and Lynne Chalfant disposed of Alli Albright and Allie Oberg 8-3, but St. Edmond dominated the rest of the matches en route to an 8-1 dual-meet victory.

"St. Edmond is good," WCHS head coach Heather Kierzek said. "But it was good to see Abbey and Lynne mesh together so well because they'll play together on Thursday (at regionals)."

St. Edmond surrendered three or fewer games in all six singles matches. No. 1 player Mary Eide and Emily Mobley at No. 4 were both 8-0 victors.

Kelsey Bahrenfuss was the only Lynx player to win three games; she fell to Claire Crimmins in the No. 3 match.

WCHS will travel to Clear Lake today for its regular season finale against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, the Lynx will head to Waterloo for the Class 1A regional singles/doubles tournament.
