FORT DODGE - The Webster City boys' tennis team won two matches - one on the singles courts and another in doubles - but was unable to advance out of a Class 1A district tournament here yesterday afternoon.
Christian Hippen opened the day for the Lynx with a victory in singles. He took down Alex Blum of Clear Lake in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. But in the next round Hippen ran into St. Edmond junior Aaron Chalstrom, the top seed and the two-time defending state runner-up. Chalstrom made quick work of Hippen, 6-0, 6-0.
"Christian had a great first match," WCHS head coach Matt Manson said.
The Lynx doubles team of Jared Doolittle and Derek Turner also opened with a straight sets win. But in the next round they were on the receiving end of a straight sets loss to Jimmy Averill and Konrad Laufersweiler of St. Edmond.
Tom Wangkham also competed in singles; he lost in the first round in three sets. Dilan Griffin and Chris Pergunde were defeated in the opening round of doubles.
