NEVADA - The Webster City girls' track team most likely won't get the chance to run on the blue oval at Drake Stadium next week. But the Lynx will have the opportunity to compete around it.

The Lynx failed to place in the top two and automatically qualify for state in any of the running events yesterday at a Class 3A State Qualifying Meet, but they did pick up a pair of silver medals in the field events to assure that the team will be involved in the statewide festivities in Des Moines.

Freshman Carrie Gerdes finished as the runner-up in the long jump, while sophomore Kaylee Schnathorst was the silver medalist in the shot put.

"We are very happy that Gerdes and Schnathorst were able to qualify for state, and we won't know until later (today) if anything else qualifies," WCHS co-head coach Kristy Manson said. "The girls all put in good efforts."

WCHS finished fourth in the final team standings. Pella took home the championship.

Point totals weren't known as of press time.
