The Daily Freeman Journal

CARROLL - The Webster City boys' golf team continued to show signs of improvement on Saturday during the Carroll Kuemper Invitational, as the Lynx took on the talented field and beat three teams en route to an 11th-place finish.

Webster City shot an 18-hole total of 352 at the par-71 Carroll Country Club. Host Carroll Kuemper took top honors with a 307; Harlan was second with a 316.

"I'm very happy for the kids because we're really starting to come together and play with more confidence," WCHS head coach Dave Brighton said. "They're seeing that the work is paying off."

Freshman Logan Yates shrugged off a couple of 3-putts to shoot an 80 to lead the team and finish in the top half of the field. He carded a 41 on the par-37 front 9 and followed it up with a 39 on the par-34 back.

"Logan played very well," Brighton said. "He's playing with his head up now and he knows he's on the verge of playing some really good golf."

Doug Stoakes and John Ferrell also broke 90 for the Lynx; Stoakes fired an 88, while Ferrell turned in an 89.
