Field events key, Lynx 4th at Lady Eagle Relays

The Daily Freeman Journal

EAGLE GROVE - The evening was never dull for Webster City girls' track co-head coaches Theo Clark and Kristy Manson last night, as they were forced to fill events on the fly at times during the Lady Eagle Relays.

And, truth be told, it didn't end up too bad.

Webster City collected 11 top-six finishes and claimed four medals that led to 99 team points and a fourth-place finish in the field of nine teams.

Webster City sophomore Kaylee Schnathorst winds up to throw the discus during yesterday’s Lady Eagle Relays in Eagle Grove. Schnathorst placed sixth with a top throw of 79 feet, 8 inches.

Algona overwhelmed the field and won with 303 points, a country mile ahead of runner-up and city rival Bishop Garrigan (165). Humboldt (139.50) took third.

"With a lineup that was nothing close to our strongest, we competed and finished well amongst some solid competition," Clark said. "It was a night filled with curveballs ... girls sitting out, dealing with sickness and a few other factors we had no control over. But we are starting to see that with a larger field we become stronger in the team rankings, which is promising going into the (North Central Conference) meet (on Monday)."

Freshman long jumper Carrie Gerdes gave Webster City its only victory on the evening. She had a best leap of 15 feet, 3 inches to top the field.
