The Daily Freeman Journal

TRAER - There were very few surprises for the Northeast Hamilton boys' golf team yesterday at the Iowa Star Conference tournament, as the Trojans didn't exceed or dip below their season average at the Traer Country Club.

Northeast Hamilton's consistent 18-hole total of 341 placed it fourth in the field of 10 full teams. Perennial power Waterloo Christian captured the league title with a 326, nine strokes in front of runner-up Clarksville (335). Don Bosco was third with a 338.

"That's about where we've been shooting score wise, and actually a little better than our last couple of meets," NEH head coach Jeff Meyer said. "So it was about what we expected."

Senior Collin Swenson contended throughout the breezy afternoon, and he walked off the course in a tie for fourth with a 6-over par 76. He shared the fourth spot with Carson Barron of Don Bosco.

"Collin hit the ball well," Meyer said. "He went out of bounds once and lipped a couple of putts, but I think he was OK with it. Every kid says he could have done better when he comes off the course, but a 76 is a good round."

Lucas Segerstrom of Waterloo Christian was the medalist with a 72.
