The Daily Freeman Journal

WEBSTER CITY - Logan Yates found the back 9 at Briggs Woods Golf Course to his liking yesterday afternoon, as the Webster City freshman captured the medalist honor in the Lynx dual meet against Eagle Grove.

Yates' round of 3-over par 39 featured six pars, including at the always difficult par-4 13th, 16th and 17th holes. He notched three consecutive pars coming in to easily take the top spot by four strokes over runner-up Cody Helmich (43) of Eagle Grove.

"Logan had an outstanding night," WCHS head coach Dave Brighton said.

Eagle Grove had the advantage in balance however, as the Eagles shot a 176 to win the meet. WCHS put up a 193.

Doug Stoakes fired a 49 for the Lynx, but he was the only other team member to break 50. Brandon Carlson added a 52, while Karter Lenning and Jake Daniels both shot 53.
