WCHS boys stay within two strokes of Bulldogs, Yates leads with 43

April 30, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

ALGONA - Two strokes is all that separated the Webster City boys' golf team from a potential victory - which would have been its first of the season - here Friday afternoon.

High winds and bone-chilling temperatures didn't help anyone on the course, as host Algona fended off the Lynx, 189-191, at the Algona Golf and Country Club.

"It was a rough night for golf," WCHS head coach Dave Brighton said. "We were so close to victory we could taste it, so we are making good progress."

Freshman Logan Yates paced the Lynx with a 43, which placed him second behind meet medalist Chris Grether (42) of Algona.

Doug Stoakes added a 48 for the Lynx, while John Ferrell and Jake Daniels both shot 50.

The Bulldogs had three players - Luke TerHark, Gavin Meyer and Jacob Foust - turn in rounds of 49.
