MAXWELL - Challenged by head coach Greg Bock during the halftime break, the Webster City girls' soccer team responded with a big second half to drop Collins-Maxwell-Baxter here on Friday.
Striker Rachel Hoffman drilled home a pair of goals and midfielder Sarah Paukert added one over the final 40 minutes to send the Lynx (2-4) to a 3-0 victory over the Raiders.
"The girls came through in the second half with three nice goals," Bock said. "I was really pleased with the effort and the way they worked so hard to get that win."
Hoffman broke the scoreless tie less than a minute into the second half when she beat CMB's keeper in the lower left-hand corner of the goal.
Paukert gave WCHS an insurance goal in the 58th minute off an assist from Molly Gilbert, and Hoffman put the match away with her second goal, also courtesy of an assist from Gilbert, in the 73rd minute.
The Lynx finished with 13 shots on goal, while CMB put up 10.
WCHS goalkeeper Samantha Garcia came up with nine saves, three coming on diving stops in the final few minutes as the Raiders did everything they could to avoid the shutout.
"Samantha played real well once again," Bock said. "Hopefully this win will give us some confidence and propel us into (this) week."
