APLINGTON - A quirky corner kick goal in the ninth minute gave the Webster City girls' soccer team an early edge, and appeared to be a sign that perhaps the Lynx would win their second straight match here last night.

But tired legs eventually proved to be the fatal flaw, as Aplington-Parkersburg took advantage of the Lynx short bench to score a pair of goals in the final 7 1/2 minutes to break a 1-1 tie and win the match, 3-1.

"This was the best game that we've played all year and all of the girls gave a great effort," WCHS head coach Greg Bock said. "But we just ran out of gas at the end."

It didn't help when sophomore midfielder Cassidy Peck a staple in the Lynx lineup went down with an ankle injury in the 71st minute, and she was unable to return.

A-P took the lead for good in the 73rd minute and tacked on an insurance goal 2 1/2 minutes later after Bock elected to bring his defense forward in an attempt to gain an offensive advantage.

Junior midfielder Brenna Paukert scored the Lynx only goal on a corner kick. Her shot curved towards the net and deflected off the Falcons' keeper and into the back of the net.

A-P fired off 21 shots on goal to the Lynx five. WCHS goalkeeper Samantha Garcia had 16 saves.

The Lynx will head to Alden tonight to face Iowa Falls-Alden at 6 p.m.
