GRUNDY CENTER - Consistency was key for the Webster City girls' tennis team here yesterday afternoon, as the Lynx showed few signs of rust in its season opener that produced an easy victory.
The Lynx took five of six singles matches and all three doubles bouts to pummel Grundy Center, 8-1, in a dual meet.
"The girls played remarkably well," WCHS head coach Heather Kierzek said. "I think we were pretty evenly matched with Grundy Center and it could have gone the other way easily, but our girls just made fewer mistakes."
Ariel Clabaugh, Cambria Hoffmann, Kelsey Bahrenfuss, Abbey Groves and Nichole Goodrich were all victors in the Nos. 2-6 singles positions for the Lynx.
Clabaugh utilized her speed and tenacity to frustrate Erica Papst in a 10-3 rout.
"Ariel just gets to every ball back there," Kierzek said. "You could tell within the first game that she was going to win that (match) because the other girl didn't know what to do."
