WCHS girls show improvement, share second at Hannover Relays

Schnathorst bags three medals, including silvers in discus and 100 hurdles

ALGONA - All Webster City girls' track team co-head coaches Kristy Manson and Theo Clark are looking for right now is improvement.

Fresh off a week break, the Lynx showed significant improvement in their second outdoor meet of the season here last night, as they finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Hannover Relays.

Meet host Algona dominated the field and won easily with 198 points. Webster City, Lake Mills and Bishop Garrigan all finished with 100.

"We worked well as a team, and our field events did really well (last night)," Manson said.

The Lynx notched 31 points in the field events, anchored by runner-up showings by freshman Carrie Gerdes in the long jump (15 feet, 11 inches) and sophomore Kaylee Schnathorst in the discus (93-7).

Schnathorst, a first-year thrower, also claimed bronze in the shot put (31-1 1/2). Teammate Katie Holdgrafer was fourth in both the shot put (29-7 1/4) and discus (90-3).

WCHS picked up just one top-three medal on the track, and that came courtesy of Schnathorst in the 100-meter hurdles where she placed second (17.48 seconds).

The Lynx compiled 19 top-six performances overall, and they double placed in three events.

WCHS will travel to Waukee on Thursday.
