WC approves contract with NEH

Agreement reached with WCEA; total package increases to 3.95 percent

The sharing agreement contract with Northeast Hamilton was approved by the Webster City school board at its meeting on Monday.

The two-year agreement will provide the district with 50 percent state aid in year one and with 60 percent in year two.

Freshmen students will spend three periods in Webster City, while NEH?juniors and seniors will spend four periods in the district.

NEH will keep its sports programs, but sports that are not offered, like wrestling, tennis and cross country, will be made available to NEH students at Webster City. Sherwood said that it will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Board member Beth Van Diest made a motion to approve the agreement, and Michelle Zahn seconded it.

A contract agreement with the Webster City Education Association was approved. A 3.95 percent increase in the total package, including insurance, was approved - which equals to a $665 raise. Also added was a family/illness sick day. A day for paternity leave, 24 hours within the birth of a child, was approved. Teachers will be allowed to leave at 3:30 p.m. the day before a break or holiday.

Two contract recommendations were approved: Brandon Frohwein, who teaches science at NEH?and health at Webster City, will fill the vacant high school science position. He graduated from Iowa State University and is endorsed in physics, chemistry, biology, health and general science. He also has his coaching endorsement. Sherwood said that he has worked at NEH since 2001.

Nicole Muhlenbruch was approved as the new girls' high school varsity basketball coach. She has coached at the junior high level for 14 years in Webster City.

The board approved two voluntary transfers: Lisa Lyons from second grade to Title I, and Alissa Beisner from kindergarten to first grade.
