MASON CITY - Mason City used its speed to get the ball by Webster City and into the net frequently in a girls' soccer match here last night.
The Mohawks exploded for three goals over the final 20 minutes of the first half, and then tacked on three more after the intermission in a 6-1 victory over the Lynx (0-2).
"Mason City is a very good, well-coached team," WCHS head coach Greg Bock said. "They were much faster than we were and they had good skills."
The Lynx avoided the shutout with 3 minutes left in regulation on a goal by Rachel Hoffman. Cassidy Peck picked up the assist on a crossing pass to Hoffman.
But WCHS managed to get just three shots on goal, compared to 18 for Mason City. Lynx goalkeeper Samantha Garcia had nine stops.
WCHS will make its home debut on Monday against Carroll Kuemper. Play from Lynx Field will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
