Webster City RV donates dumpsters

Carry-in, carry-out policy still in effect

Hamilton County Parks will each have one dumpster at its campgrounds for the 2012 season - from May 15 to Sept. 15. Director Brian Lammers said that Webster City RV recently approached the Conservation Board about supplying the dumpsters for use.

"It is important that people remember that before and after those days, the carry-in, carry-out policy will still be enforced," he said. "Also, it is for campgrounds only. The remainder of the parks (shelters, picnic areas, etc.) still require the carry-in, carry-out policy."

The Department of Transportation will start on a resurfacing project of U.S. Highway in the next two years. Lammers said that the portion from Ames north to County Road E18 in Story County will be started after July 1. After July 1, 2013, paving from County Road E18 to just north of Little Wall Lake Park will start. Lammers contacted the DOT regarding resurfacing 450 yards into the park during that time. He said that the board would have to work with the Department of Natural Resources on using marine fuel tax or water recreation access money (grant programs) for the park resurfacing. Discussions will continue regarding the proposed project.

A purchase agreement was entered for logs that will be used in the upcoming cabin project. Prairie Rivers RC&D will provide 3,000 linear feet of white oak logs. Bids were received on construction for the project. The septic system bid was awarded to Tile Pros in Webster City. There was only one bid each for electrical and concrete - both were denied. The board will go ahead and seek other quotes and bid information from other companies to continue the project.

The next Hamilton County Conservation Board meeting will be at 9 a.m. on April 24 at the conservation office.
