To the Editor,
It was just another lovely day in paradise on a brief excursion with the dog along the walking trail from Nokomis Park to White Fox Road. Wait - what do I see all along the path and at a fishing spot right next to the river? Trash, including Styrofoam cups, fast food packaging, six-pack plastic rings, plastic cups and lids, a burnt six-volt battery, dirty baby diaper, plastic bottles, cigarette packs, and the packaging of a child's new fishing pole.
But the worst item of all, and not something any fisherman worth his salt would leave on the ground, was a large glob of fishing line, just waiting for some nesting bird to pick up and get entwined in its legs and wings. They don't usually escape or survive from that. Please ... if you are able-bodied enough to fish, walk and ride, you are capable of putting your trash in your pocket and taking it home with you.
