Unite to keep senior center

March 23, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

To the Editor,

Hamilton Hospital will soon be gone. Destroyed by the wrecking ball. Since we moved to this community in 1967, we have seen many buildings disappear. These are the ones that we can remember: Old South Elementary Building, Washington Central Junior High, Lincoln High School, Central Administration Building, all but three walls of Elm Park, Hilltop vacated but still standing, and the old Lawn Hill building will soon be gone. Also missing from the landscape are: the old City Hall, the old court house, the old jail behind the court house, English Lutheran Church and the old church that sat on the corner of Willson and Bank.

In Europe they save every old building and every old church and when we travel abroad, we pay money to visit them. In Webster City, Iowa, and the U.S., we tear everything down.

In an article in the Freeman Journal recently, it appears that the next item on the chopping block will be the Senior Citizens Center. I hope all the seniors in Webster City will unite and keep the senior center and and the seniors a viable and participating part of our town.
