March into golf season

Conservation Chit Chat

The unseasonably warm weather has given birth to an early opening for the Conservation Season. Briggs Woods Golf Course opened for the season on March 13, the second earliest opening in recent memory. A healthy crowd of golfers graced the greens on Tuesday. With plans in place for the 2012 season golfers and residents should be pleased with the progress, changes, and events planned for this year.

Our pass-holder program remains firmly in place. A half price pass awaits first time pass-holders at Briggs Woods Golf Course. Our Corporate Pass Program is entering its second year in existence. This program allows businesses to entertain clients, employees and friends to rounds of golf and other incentives included in their corporate pass. Another option for businesses is our new corporate networking night. Booking a corporate networking night allows any business to hold a seminar, public meeting or business group gathering for $50 at Briggs Woods Golf Course. Included in the networking package, businesses receive promotional advertising via our e-blast system; discounted green fee coupons for all of their attendees, a Par for the Course Catering discount coupon good towards any food purchased for their group, and finally businesses receive a promotional article in our e-newsletter, "Conservation Corner" that reaches over 3500 people via email.

Making its debut at Briggs Woods Golf Course in 2012 is the Iowa Golf Trail. Briggs Woods Golf Course is partnering with five other courses including Otter Creek (Des Moines), The Preserve (Lake Rathbun), Blue Top Ridge (Riverside Casino & Golf Resort), Bos Landen (Pella), and Panorama (Lake Panorama Resort) to create the "Iowa Golf Trail". This project was the brain child of Briggs Woods Golf Course Manager Russ Appel and Bos Landen Pro and Owner Scott Reuter. Their idea was that this would be a great extension of the ever popular stay and play program. The difference between the two programs would be that the Iowa Golf Trail gives golf enthusiasts the opportunity to play several courses rather than just one. This program should prove to be a tourism booster for our area.

Briggs Family Days will commence on select Sundays in June and continue throughout the season. Family days are geared toward family fun for everyone. Discount green fees, fun events, goofy games and mini lessons are just a few of the things people can expect to find at Briggs Family Fun Days. Look for more information as June gets closer.

Briggs Woods Golf Course Clubhouse continues to make progress towards our goals. Whether you are a golfer or not, you can participate in any of our special functions held at the clubhouse. Scheduled for the 2012 season are dinner theatres, wine tastings, Friday night specials, Monday lunch crunches, Wednesday morning breakfasts, Sunday buffet specials and the ever popular adult slip and slide contest.

I have no doubt in my mind that 2012 will prove to be successful, fun and exciting for everyone. We are proud to be able to provide Hamilton County with a fantastic golf course. Golf Digest agrees as it bestowed on Briggs Woods Golf Course a 4-star out of 5 rating as one of their "Places to Play" on a national scale. We are excited and humbled to have received such an honor from Golf Digest. Briggs Woods Golf Course has 40 years of history and tradition that generations have come to know and love. Our mission throughout the years has stood firm to provide the public with an outstanding course, excellent service and attentive staff who anticipate your needs and transcend your expectations.

Join Briggs Woods Golf Course in 2012 for an exciting round of golf.
