AMES - The Webster City girls' track team rolled up four top-50 finishes at its first meet of the season - the ISU Indoor - here on Monday.

Senior thrower Katie Holdgrafer kicked off her final campaign on the right foot with a 33rd-place finish in the shot put with a best toss of 33 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Teammate Carrie Gerdes also was strong in the long jump with a 36th-place result; her best splash landing was 14-4 1/4.

"It was a good start to the year and provides us with focus for what we can improve on," WCHS co-head coach Theo Clark said.

Clark and Kristy Manson took over the reigns this season for departed coach Duane Harding, who guided the Lynx to numerous North Central Conference and regional championships during his time in charge.

Lynx sophomore Kaylee Schnathorst took 45th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.00 seconds), and the 4x800 relay of Morgan Moline, Kenady Highland, Lissa Villa and Liz Wells finished in 50th (12:27.00).

WCHS will return to the track on Saturday to take part in the Buena Vista University Indoor in Storm Lake.
