CLEAR LAKE - A forgettable third quarter spelled the end for the Webster City girls' basketball team here last night, as the Lynx dropped a 58-38 decision to Clear Lake in North Central Conference action.
The Lynx (5-15, 5-12 NCC) trailed by just four points, 24-20, at the intermission. But the Lions (11-8, 11-6 NCC) started the third quarter by scoring the first 14 points, and they went on a 20-3 spurt during the 8-minute period to build a cushion they never relinquished.
"We played a pretty decent first half. We executed pretty well and played pretty decent defense," WCHS head coach Jeff Lyons said. "But for whatever reason we fell apart in the third quarter. We went ice cold offensively and then when that happened we gave up some things at the defensive end."
Katie Holdgrafer led WCHS with 12 points, all in the first half. Taylor Broshar hit a pair of 3-point baskets on her way to nine points, and Cambria Hoffmann drilled two 3s as well and added seven points.
Logan Anderson led Clear Lake with 13 points. Megan Loux had 12.
The Lynx will close out the regular season at Algona on Friday.
