Members of the Webster City Area Development and Chamber of Commerce took a step back into the Roaring 20s Monday night as the group held its annual meeting and banquet at St. Thomas Parish Center.

Chamber staff members and others dressed as flappers and gangsters in keeping with the theme of the night.

Those present were able to purchase mystery gift boxes which contained prizes and gift certificates donated by area businesses.

Chamber Director Carrie Fitzgerald introduced Theo Boman, retiring Chamber board president who gave the invocation. Incoming president Tyler Abens then introduced his fellow board members and new board representatives.

Those attending had an opportunity to see a series of "ADventures," business videos available on the Chamber of Commerce website,

Many of the Chamber's accomplishments for 2011 were outlined in the program for the evening. Those activities included adding a new promotion, Wacky Wednesday; developing a new website, www.visitwebstercityiowa.com; a series of business education seminars; more than $32,500 in revolving loan funds dispersed, and more than 100 visitor requests received from all over the United States.

The Chamber goals outlined for 2012 include increasing the value of chamber membership; focusing on events - recreating, restructuring and inventing new ones and providing education on what Webster City has to offer, and educating the business community on best practices to grow their businesses.

The gala was sponsored by Webster City Custom Meats Inc., Foster Funeral and Cremation Center and Peterson Construction.
