David Young, Stanhope, was elected chairman of the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning as the board gathered to the annual reorganizational meeting.
Doug Bailey, Webster City, was elected chairman pro-tem. Both Young and Bailey thanked out-going Chairman Wes Sweedler for his leadership of the board.
"Last year marked the end of a chapter in Hamilton County with the closing of Electrolux. But I think we are finding our way through that," Sweedler said. "I've been pleased to serve with you two. We work well as a team."
"We've kind of turned this (the chairman seat) into a team position. We don't always agree, but we're able to come to a consensus and move forward," Young said.
The supervisors took care of a laundry list of resolutions and authorizations as part of its reorganizational meeting for the new year.
The county's official depositories and maximum limits were approved as as follows:

The Daily Freeman-Journal, the South Hamilton Record News and the Stratford Courier were named as the official county newspapers. The supervisors also authorized the county auditor to make budgeted transfers of county funds, authorized the county assessor to allow homestead exemptions, and gave the county treasurer the authority to invest county funds.
The list of secondary highway and bridge construction projects for 2012 were approved and the county engineer was authorized to determine the dates of closure of those sections of highway. The affected roadways include: 190th Street between Little Wall Lake Road and U.S. Interstate 35; 170th Street between Tollman Avenue and Ubben Avenue; Tollman Avenue between 250th Street and 260th Street; Ziegler Avenue between 370th Street and 380th Street; and Vail Avenue between 330th Street and 300th Street.
Appointments
The supervisors also appointed several new people to serve on county and regional boards and commissions. Young was appointed to serve as the Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator for the county. Karen Mason and Gail Kantak were appointed to serve on the Eminent Domain Commission as owners-operators of agricultural property. Bob McNally was appointed as a delegate to the North Central Iowa Emergency Medical Services Association Board and Phil Queen was appointed as an alternate to the Region V Hazardous Materials Response Commission.
Mike Willer was appointed to the Veterans Affairs Commission and Rob Everhard, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the commission in November, was appointed to a full term, ending in 2014.
Roger Lenz, who served a three-year term on the Hamilton County Conservation Board, was reappointed to a full five-year term. Mike Tindall was appointed to a term on the Webster City Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Tom Chelesvig was reappointed to the Webster City Planning and Zoning Commission. Gene Willis and Denny Jackson will serve as the supervisors' appointees on the civil service commission. They were reappointed to the commission for a six-year term.
Set holidays, meeting
Non-bargaining county employees will have 13 holidays this year. The supervisors approved New Years, Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 16, Presidents Day on Feb. 20, Memorial Day on May 28, Independence Day on July 4, Labor Day on Sept. 3, Veterans Day on Nov. 12, Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 22, Christmas on Dec. 25, New Year's Day on Jan. 1, 2013 and one floating holiday to be taken during the calendar year.
The board members set the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 9 a.m. as the regular date and time for regular sessions.
