Thankful for bravery and help during fire

December 2, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

To the Editor:

On Sept. 28, dry conditions and fierce winds caused a fire to sweep through a rural area north of Webster City.

We, the people of the area whose property was in its destructive path, would like to thank the 28 brave and dedicated firefighters from Blairsburg, Kamrar, Stanhope, Webster City and Woolstock who gave their time and risked their safety to contain the fire.

Several neighborhood farmers, including Keith Brock, Darle Elkin, Roy Hildebrand and Brent Odland came with their chisel plows to create a barrier which saved many acres of corn at great personal risk. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the Iowa Highway Patrol personnel for providing road security.

Words cannot fully express how much your efforts mean to us all.
