The holiday season will be here before we know it. It's just five weeks until Christmas. With that busy season of special concerts, parties and other holiday gatherings, comes the realization that many families are struggling just to get by this year.
One way to help those less fortunate is to donate some time to ring bells at one of the donation kettle sites in the community.
On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, bell ringers will be stationed at Fareway, Hy-Vee and KMart, accepting donations that will help area families and individuals in need.
More help is needed and officials said those volunteering will have an opportunity to select their time slot and location. Bell ringers will be at work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers need only sign up for an hour, but more time will also be appreciated.
To register to help, call Upper Des Moines Opportunity at 832-6451. An hours worth of bell ringing may help make the holidays a little brighter for
others in our community.
